Workflow is a management system that is implemented for users to be able to manage a business process, job, or "task flow" that consists of many individual tasks involving people. This system allows for approval to be required before a process can continue, and notification to be sent after the specified task is completed. In this fashion, a job can be monitored and stopped should there be any important flags that arise during the process. Benefits to implementing Workflow include: increased efficiencies; error reduction; cross-department notifications; auto-escalating approvals; clear process definition and monitoring; flexibility; and electronic audit trails.

Workflows are designed and developed with many technical toolsets - JD Edwards EnterpriseOne is the toolset that MASYC uses to implement Workflow. In addition to the above listed benefits to Workflow in general, JD Edwards creates the advantage of integrating with the various application modules that EnterpriseOne also serves.

A great opportunity that MASYC has identified is to implement Workflow for handling expense reports. Expense reports configured in Workflow enable processing to be monitored and approved based on a variety of factors, which include: the amount that is to be expensed, the person or department with the expense, and defined roles of the person (or persons) that approve an expense.
